Joseph L. Gross, 83, Topeka died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at a local hospital. He was born Oct. 14, 1921 in Burnsville, Miss. the son of Thomas and Miriam Ford Gross. He married Dorothy L. Mitchell May 10, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV, she died March 31, 1996. Joseph enlisted in the Army in 1938 and retired in 1965. He fought in World War II and Korean Conflict. Upon retirement Joe was a chef at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, The Plaza Inn, and the Couch House Inn in Abilene. He then became a chef at the Shawnee Country Club, and the Top Of The First He and his wife then opened Dorothy's Kithcen in Topeka. He was a member of American Legion Post #1. He was preceded in death by a son Gary Gross in 1965 and three great grandchildren Taylor Lynn Barber, Jordan Allen Barber and Andrew Bindley. Other survivors include a son Thomas Gross, Topeka; four daughters, Kelly Kaye Hutchinson; Deana Bindley, Salina; Connie Hulse and Debbie Packard both of Topeka; sister, Ruth Biggs, Iuka, Miss. 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be presented by a funeral detail from Ft. Riley, KS.
