Joseph Gildersleeve, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at a Topeka care facility. He was born on May 28, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Frederick and Christine Hoffmann Gildersleeve. He graduated from Brooklyn Tech in 1938. Joseph was an Army veteran of WWII, serving from 1942-1946. He had resided in Topeka since 1947. He was a journeyman electrician and was also employed by Peters Electric before retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Christian Church and the I.B.E.W. Local No. 226 for 60 years. Joseph married Marjorie Clinton on May 29, 1948 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2008. Survivors include one son, Ross Gildersleeve of Hoisington, two daughters, Susan McCartney and Sara Conley, both of Berryton, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Inurnment of both Joe and his wife, Marjorie will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery where military honors will be presented by a burial detail from Fort Riley.
