Mr. Joseph D. Perkins,87 of Topeka passed away Monday, June 7, 2004 in Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born March 2, 1917 in Leavenworth, KS the son of Joseph and Marie Meiers Perkins.
Joe grew up in Leavenworth, where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Following his military service Joe moved to Topeka, he met and married Patricia Ann Shortt. They were married on May 17, 1947 and she passed away on June 8, 1982. Joe was a manager with Ray Christian Jeweler's for over 25 years and then as a salesman with Sears until his retirement in 1982. He was a very active member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Joe was also a member of Optimists Club and Topeka Rose Society. In September 1986 he married Margaret Douglass, she passed away on January 22, 2004.
Joe leaves behind his daughter Patty and her husband Dale Brehm of Overland Park, KS; his granddaughter Michelle and his grandson Mark; one sister LaVera Miller of Chino Hills, CA.
Mr. Perkins will lie in state on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 beginning at noon; the family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
