Jon E. Holley, 66 of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
He was born February 26, 1946 in Denver, CO, the son of Owen and Lois Coverdale Holley. Jon graduated from Soldier High School. He was employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation as a photographer and engineering technician for 43 years before retiring in December, 2007.
Jon married Janet "Jan" Novak on April 7, 1968 in Lucas, KS. She survives.
Other survivors include two children, Jennifer (Andy) Seaton of Sahuarita, AZ, Jay (Beth) Holley of Lawrence, two grandchildren, Ashlee and Brinley Seaton, and one sister, Lois (Pat) O'Shea of Hoyt.
Jon enjoyed time with family and friends and loved helping others. He had a gift for working with his hands. He could fix almost anything and was a fine craftsman. Jon was also an avid fisherman. He fished frequently with friends, and in recent years helped a family friend and teacher instruct her 4th grade students with learning to fish. He took great delight in spending time with the school children, both in the classroom and at the water.
Jon will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

The contributions will be used to support ALS research and the 4th grade fishing program that Jon so loved.
