Johnnie L. Almond, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Midland Hospice House.

Johnnie was born October 29, 1931, in Elmer, MO, to Eddie Rado and Sally Adelaide (Griffin) Almond. He graduated from Elmer High School in 1949. Johnnie went to work for Santa Fe Railroad right after high school where he worked for many years as a lineman and later retiring from the Signal Department. He belonged to the Topeka Lodge #17, AF & AM. Johnnie was a member of the Keystone Kops Unit for the Arab Shrine's Charity Works. He loved camping in the mountain west, canoeing, and gardening.

He is survived by his two children, Michael (Caitlin) Almond and Rita (Robert) Almond-Lehnert; grandchildren, Hannah and Eric; brothers, James (Janet) Almond and Kenny (Carol) Almond; and dog, Paddy.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife, Carol M. Almond; brothers, Jerry and Milbern Almond; sisters, Verna Easley, Anna Magers, Mary Rhoades, and Letha Newberry; and parents.

The family would like to thank Atria Hearthstone for all of their care and support.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins, Topeka, KS 66604. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS. A private family entombment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital Travel Fund, 1305 S Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66612, Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606, and First Congregational Church.
