John T. "Jack" Tice, 81, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. He was born September 5, 1929, in Topeka, to Arthur T. and Mamie McDonald Tice. He was a life-long resident of Topeka.
Jack graduated from Seaman High School in 1947 and attended Washburn University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 39 years before retiring in 1989.
On April 2, 1955, Jack married Alice M. Robbins in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, John T. (Deb) Tice, II; two grandchildren, Ian and Lauren; three brothers, Dean Tice, Jerry Tice and Larry Tice; and one sister, Betty Myers. Jack was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Robbins; three brothers, Ben, Ralph and Jim; and his sister, Phyllis Garbisch.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery with military honors presented by a burial detail from Fort Riley. Jack will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
