John S. Haynes

Age 96, passed away February 1, 2003 at a Topeka hospital. He was born November 27, 1906 in Perry, KS the third child of Marcus and Mary Shepheard Haynes. He graduated from Perry High School in 1922.He was employed by the AT&SF Railway September 1926 as a clerk retiring from the At&SF Railway in July 1972 as an auditor. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945 with the US 7th Fleet in the South Pacific. After the service he attended Washburn University graduated with a BBA. He was member of Lowman United Methodist, American Legion Post #1, Member Of VFW, Santa Fe Old Timers Club. He was prededed in death by a brother David Haynes and a sister Frances Haynes.

He was married to Catherine Davis November 12, 1942 in Stanford, CT, She survives.

Survivors include: One Son: John D. Haynes Tecumseh, KS

One Brother: Marcus Haynes Sun Valley, CA

One grandchild Two great grandchildren
And other relatives

Funeral services will be held at Mount Hope Chapel at 2:00PM February 4, 2003. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery. Military services will follow. Mr. Haynes will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel Monday, February 3, 2003 from 1:00PM to 9:00PM. A family visistation will be held from 6:00PM to 7:00PM that evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Lowman United Methodist Church 4000 SW Drury Lane Topeka, KS 66604 or American Legion Post #1 3800 SE Michigan Ave. Topeka, KS 66605.
