John L. Reed, 83, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on May 3, 2021.
He was born on February 12, 1938 in Alexandria, Pennsylvania to James Claire and Julia (Dueno) Reed.
John was a very educated man. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Pennsylvania State, a Master's Degree in history from Emporia State, a Political Science Degree from Hawaii University and Weber State University of Utah. He worked at Goodyear for 11 years and while working attended Washburn University to obtain his law degree. He practiced law until his retirement.
He was a member of the United States Air Force for 12 years from 1963 to 1975. While in the USAF he met his wife, Sharon K. Frakes, while stationed in Topeka, Kansas. They married on June 6, 1964. After their union in marriage, John and Sharon moved to Denver, CO, Oklahoma for two and a half years, and then John was stationed in Vietnam for one year. Upon his return to the states, John was stationed in Hawaii for two and a half years and eventually settled in Roy, Utah. Once he retired from the USAF, they moved back to Topeka.
John's main hobby was reading. He liked books about the military, history, philosophy and many other topics. He would always make trips to the bookstore to find new reads.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 56 years; his children, David A. (Socheta) Reed, Steven P. Reed, Michelle R. (Shawn) Holmer, Kevin M. (Rio) Reed, Shawn M. Reed, and Merielle N. Reed; two grandchildren, Taylor and Jared Holmer; and his sibling, Carmen G. Reed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lloyd A. Reed.
A Graveside Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Topeka Cemetery, in Topeka, Kansas.
