John Pile

John Robert Pile died Oct. 6, 2004 at his home. He was 79. He was born March 21, 1925 at Powersville, MO, the son of Ira Otha and Dora Myrtle Lowry Pile.
He attended schools near Ottawa, KS graduated from Centennial High School in Pubelo, CO and from the University of Denver in 1952 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He was employed at Capitol Life Insurance Company in Denver, CO prior to moving to Topeka in 1960 where he was employed at National Reserve Life Insurance Company. He became Vice-President of Data Processing in 1969. He retired in 1985. After retirement, he and son, Matt, owned and operated Sprockets Video Transfer Co.
He had served in World War II in the 419th Field Artillery Group in the Phillipines and Ryukus Islands. He was discharged January 16, 1946.
He was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Silver State Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M., Pueblo, CO, former member of Topeka West Rotary International, the Insurance Accounting and Statistical Association, former member of Topeka Administrative Management Society serving as president from 1971 to1072, and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
He married Ruth Ann Platz, June 8, 1946. She survives.
Other survivors include three children, Suzanne Wilkerson and husband Gary, Overland Park, KS; Samuel R. Pile and wife Connie, Eagle ID; and Matt Pile and wife Kathy, Tulsa, OK; eight grandchildren, one sister Mary Elizabeth Strawn, Colorado Springs, CO; one brother William Pile, Beulah, CO.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
John will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
