John E. McDonald, 55, Topeka, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 9, 2007 at Stormont Vail Hospital surrounded by friends and family.
John was born March 14, 1952 in Topeka, the son of James L. and Jean A. (Velella) McDonald. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1970.
He was employed as a Pressman for Adams Business Forms for 33 years before retiring in 2001 for health reason.
He was a member of Community Church and served as a deacon, helped with the youth and taught Sunday School.
John married Sherry Luekenga on November 1, 1970 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their children; Dawn Houghton and husband, Mike, Melissa Hartzell and husband, Kenny, James McDonald and wife, Lindsay, all of Topeka, Shelley Baker and husband, D.J., Bellevue, IA; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a beloved mother-in-law, Julia Luekenga; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007 at Community Church, 1819 SW 21, Topeka. John will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
