John Deines, Jr., 84, Wakarusa, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Midland Hospice House.
John was born January 29, 1928 in Hill City, the son of John and Katherine (Rahn) Deines, Sr. He attended school in Hill City and WaKeeney.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-46.
He attended trade school and worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Ft. Lupton, CO until 1956. He moved to Ransom, where he farmed and had a welding repair shop until 1970. He began manufacturing commercial riding mowers in 1971 and moved to Topeka in 1980 where he formed Willsey-D Inc. at Maple Hill. That company manufactured mowers until 1991.
John married Martha Jean Stieben in January 1948. She survives. Other survivors include daughters, Pam Rosenberry, Douglass, Kathy (Mike) Berry, Canton; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brother, Lorine Deines, San Diego, CA.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Bazine Cemetery in Bazine. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
