John Fry

Major John F. Fry, Ret. , 79, of Hoyt, formerly of Topeka, passed away, Monday, October 13, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.

He was born July 11, 1924 at Portsmouth, VA the son of Leslie and Doris (Gay) Fry.

He served as a pilot twelve years in active duty in the Army and Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1984 with forty one years of active and reserve service. Major Fry served in WWII and Korea. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with thirty years of service. He retired as Division Superintendent in 1989.

Mr. Fry was a 51 year member of Masonic Lodge #169 in Blue Rapids, Kansas.

He married Maxine Galletly January 6, 1946. She preceded him in death in May 1997. He married Garnett E. Dudley in March 12, 1998. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Richard and George Fry, (address unknown) and four stepdaughters, Linda Palmer, Judy Balletine, both of Pelham, GA Cindy Smith Suisuan, CA, and Rebecca Gilbert Tampa, FL, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2003 at the Mayetta Cemetery. John will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
