John F. Sanders, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on February 2, 1934 in Hannibal, MO, the son of Byron C. and Georgiana Cann Sanders. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. John graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Missouri in 1960. He worked for over 30 years in the Certified Public Accounting field. He retired as a partner with the firm of Grant Thornton in 1986. He then was employed as the Treasurer of the Kansas University Alumni Association before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Kansas Society of CPA's where he served as past president, the Topeka Chamber of Commerce and St. John's Lutheran Church. John married Erma R. Kleinsorge on June 12, 1960 in Hannibal, MO. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Deborah A. Goforth and husband, Clay of Topeka, one son, John S. Sanders of Topeka and three granddaughters, Chelsi, Christa and Kacie. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery where military honors will be provided by a burial detail from Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, MO. John will lie in state after Noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
