John Evans "JEB" Brown, 64, of Topeka, passed away, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at his home.
He was born July 9, 1947 in Ft. Smith, AR. He is preceded in death by his parents Wyatt and Louise Brown.
He was a 1965 graduate of Highland Park High School.
John was employed 43 years with BNSF as a computer systems analyst.
John was a member of the Shawnee County Mounted Posse from 1968-74.
He loved sports and was a player/coach in the Topeka fast pitch softball leagues. He coached youth baseball for 15 years in the Topeka area and remained active with youth baseball attending his grandsons' games. He was an avid golfer, belonging to the Lake Shawnee Golf Course.
John married Jackie Sanders December 30, 1967 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Chad (Melanie) and Jason (April) Brown, Topeka; two brothers, Jerry Brown, Mayetta, KS, James (Connie)Brown, Berryton, KS; four grandsons, Ryan, Caleb, Braeden and Cooper Brown; his Aunt, Neelie Mae Lewis as well as many nieces and nephews.
John will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral ceremony will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday July 27, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Parkinson's Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305 or to Big Springs United Methodist Church, 96 U.S. Highway 40, Lecompton, Kansas 66050. John was a University of Kansas fanatic. His wish was for those attending his ceremony to wear their favorite athletic apparel and dress casual.
