John Calvin Bergmeier

February 7, 1928 — March 2, 2014

John Calvin Bergmeier, 86, of Topeka, died on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

John was born on February 7, 1928 in rural Dickinson County to John H. and Blanche M. (Arnold) Bergmeier. John served in the United States Army after World War II.

John married Dorothy Bergmeier on August 7, 1946 in Virginia Beach, VA; she preceded him in death on August 16, 1982. John was married to Venona Robertson on June 16, 1984 in Topeka.

John worked at Kansas Power and Light for many years and retired in 1985. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Venona Bergmeier (Robertson), two daughters, Kay (Larry) Rute of Topeka and Vickie (John) Kelly of Auburn; one son, Brian (Cheri) Bergmeier of Greeley, CO; a step-Son, Roy (Kristine) Robertson of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clayton Dean Bergmeier of Pocatello, ID as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

John's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014 at First Southern Baptist Church, 1912 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604. A graveside inurnment with military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7 at Keystone Cemetery in Manchester, KS. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either First Southern Baptist Church 1912 SW Gage Blvd. Topeka, KS 66604 or to American Cancer Society 1315 SW Arrowhead Road Topeka, KS 66604.
