John C. Marshall

John C. Marshall, 85, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at his home. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Valparaiso, IN the son of Charles S. and Lida Cooper Marshall. He attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. John was an Army veteran of WWII. He resided in Topeka since February of 1956. He was a Vice President - Chief Appraiser for Capitol Federal Savings for 31 years before retiring on September 30, 1987. He served as treasurer of Open Way Church, coordinating donations for numerous missionaries, for almost 40 years. He was currently a member of Maranatha Baptist Fellowship and served as an elder. He also was an active member of the Gideons International where he served a number of years on the State Cabinet. He also served two terms as President of Chapter No. 159 of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. John married Betty J. Brooks on April 12, 1953 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Dunn of Topeka, Ruth Ellen Dunn of Tulsa, OK, seven grandchildren and two sisters, Gail Eloise Marshall of Valparaiso, IN and Charlene Nan Irvin of Lake Placid, FL. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Maranatha Baptist Fellowship. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. John will lie in state after Noon Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1092, Topeka, KS 66601.
