Johann Forrestt, 88, Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012. She was born in Valley Falls, Kansas to John and Jane Figgs. She was raised on the family farm, with her six brothers. She is survived by two brothers Jack Figgs and Eddie Figgs. Preceding her in death were brothers, Steve Figgs, John Figgs, George Figgs, and Don Figgs.
She attended Washburn University and became a pioneer for women's rights. She was one of the first women to obtain a professional position in a hospital as a respiratory therapist. Excelling in her field, she became director of the department and developed training manuals. After retiring, she worked with special needs children in the school system. She enjoyed the outdoors and bird watching.
In 1945 she married her beloved Frank Forrestt in Topeka, who preceded her in death in 1969. Survivors include her children, Francie Forrestt Riley, Jon and Cheryl Forrestt, Timothy and Leanna Forrestt and Debbie Forrestt all living in Berryton, KS. She had 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel, 17th & Fairlawn, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Entombment will follow. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
