Joe Neal Breedlove

Joe Neal Breedlove, 78, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. He was born in Norman, OK, the son of Robert Lee and Lillian Victory (Bruesch). Joe was married to Peggy (Manning) for 59 years.

Joe started his military service in the Navy Reserve (1952 – 1954) as an aircraft mechanic, but mostly remembers driving for the Admiral and making raisin wine in the South Pacific. He changed services after a short break and joined in the US Air Force in 1955. Joe served 27 years in the USAF and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was most proud of his time as an Aerial Refueling (Boom) Operator. Joe was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for action in Vietnam in 1972. Joe also greatly enjoyed his time as the Boom Operator Advisor to the Kansas Air National Guard at Forbes Field from 1978 – 1980. After his AF career, Joe spent 15 years working for the US Postal Service.

Joe loved bird hunting with his son-in-laws, bowling at Gage Bowl with his granddaughter Lizzy and his bowling team, playing pool with his pool team from Terry's Billiards, and golfing with the "geezers" at Forbes Golf Course. He volunteered numerous hours with parks and recreation unified softball, Special Olympics and Loving Hearts.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, their three children and spouses: Pamela J. Breedlove, Lt. Col. USAR (Daniel Boeding, MSgt Ret.), Topeka; Cheryl L. Holt (Christopher Holt, CMSgt Ret.), CMSgt, Ret., VA and Robert J. Breedlove (Jennifer), TX. Nine grandchildren: Lizzy, Ellen, Alexandra, Robin, Jennifer, Jessica, Tanner, Riley, and Dior also two great grandchildren Mac and Soren. Also four siblings: Norma Lee Frisby, Louisiana; Tajwana Lyons, Ronnie Breedlove and Toni Peery, all of Norman, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Jones.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Mount Hope Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608.
