Joanne C. Pomeroy

Joanne C. Pomeroy, 77, Topeka, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Midland Hospice House.
Joanne was born January 30, 1933 in Iowa Falls, IA, the daughter of Eldo and Evelyn (Nay) Bunge. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1950 and attended Washburn University.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she had served on the church council, participated in Pricilla Circle, and loved serving as a home communion assistant. She had been Secretary/Treasurer of the Topeka Knife & Fork Club; was a past president of Chapter GJ of P.E.O. where she was a member for over 50 years and had received the Golden Girl award. She was active in many community affairs, enjoying political activities while her husband served in the State Senate; served as President of the Legislative Wives; was a co-founder of the College Hill Association, serving as its first president. She was a long time member of the Nautilus Club. She had twice been co-president of the Kansas State Twins Association. She enjoyed playing bridge and family card games and had been a champion tennis player.
Joanne married Elwaine Pomeroy on September 30, 1950. He survives. Other survivors include sons, Duane (Deborah) Pomeroy, Topeka, Carl (Deborah) Pomeroy, Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and identical twin sister, Jeanine (William) Laughlin, Great Bend. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janella Evans; and grandson, Alex Evans.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Joanne will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Private family inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
