Joann Strunk

JoAnn Strunk, 80, of Topeka, went to be with her Lord April 6, 2009.
JoAnn was born April 12, 1928 in Lawrence, KS to Rollie and Alice (Whitaker) Laster. She was a lifetime resident of Topeka. JoAnn wed Robert E. Newell in 1942 and later married Arnold Strunk, Sr. in 1947. JoAnn was co-owner and operator of Strunk's Retail Liquor Store for over 15 years. She was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, a member of the Democratic Action Committee, and the American Legion.
Survivors include her five children, Robert Newell of Denver, CO; Karen (James) Bosch of Topeka; Arnold "Jerry" (Pam) Strunk, of Tempe, AZ; Thomas (Dianne) Strunk of Overland Park, KS; Randall Strunk of Topeka, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Roma Kennedy of Lawrence, KS and Beverly O'Mohundro of Topeka. JoAnn is preceded in death by her loving husband Arnold Strunk, Sr., who passed away in 2004, and a sister, Nadine Dempewolf.
Mrs. Strunk will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8th, with visitation to follow from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm, at Penwell Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 9th, 11:00 am, at Hope Lutheran Church. Pastor Troy Scoggins will officiate. Interment will follow at Penwell Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 2636 SE Minnesota Ave., Topeka, 66605.
