JoAnn Stauffer, 81, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born July 16, 1932 in Dwight, KS, the daughter of John and Lillian Nordeen Holshouser.
JoAnn graduated from Dwight High School in 1950 and obtained a BS degree from Kansas State University in 1955 and a MS degree from Emporia State University in 1973. She had resided in Salina for 8 years, Emporia for 27 years where she taught learning disabilities at Lowther Middle School for 25 years and retired to Topeka in 1994. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon. She also was a volunteer for the Topeka Literacy Council as well as the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
JoAnn married Gene A. Stauffer on August 15, 1954 in Manhattan, KS. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, John Stauffer (Kim) of Olathe, Brad Stauffer (Judy) of Lincoln, NE, one daughter, Tina Murray (Brian) of Los Angeles, CA and 2 grandsons, Christopher and Michael Stauffer. JoAnn was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Holm and one brother, Don Holshouser.
JoAnn bequeathed her body to science. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at Dwight Cemetery in Dwight, KS at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Topeka Literacy Council, 1119 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
