JoAnn "Jody" Gibbs, 79, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Aldersgate Village. She was born on July 29, 1928 in White City, the daughter of Cecil O. and Edna Pletcher Steele. She was raised in Great Bend before moving to Topeka. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946 and was the Homecoming Queen that year. Jody was employed by Gibbs Clothing Company, Ray Beers Clothing Company, Eatons Menswear and Hein Stremming Menswear. She was active in community service. She was a member of Grace Cathedral where she served on the Altar Guild. Her most proud moments was her time spent with her family. Jody married Clem Gibbs on February 21, 1950 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Kathy Rumsey and husband, Mike of Lenexa, Debby Pufahl and husband, Tom of Wakarusa, Ted Gibbs and wife, Lois of San Antonio, TX, Terry Gibbs and wife, Christine of Oklahoma City, OK and Laura Gibbs and companion, Steve Porter of Perry, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two additional babies expected soon. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Grace Cathedral. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Jody will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be given to Grace Cathedral, 701 S.W. 8th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W.
