JoAnn Boies Cole, 67, Topeka, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at her home. She was born October 30, 1936 in Topeka, the daughter of Laurel C. and Helen Fisher Boies. She graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She recently retired from Kansas Bankers Association where she had worked for 21 years.
JoAnn was the first woman president of the Topeka Friends of the Zoo. Through her active involvement in the Junior League of Topeka, she was instrumental in starting the Community Youth Homes.
She married Walter I. Cole, Jr. on October 8, 1960. They were divorced. Other survivors include a son David, and his wife Jeanne, and their children Catherine, Brian, and Andrew of Centennial, Co.; a daughter Elizabeth Cole Munns and her husband Hunter, and their children Avery and Jordan of Topeka.
She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Holt and her husband Keith of Topeka; four nephews and three neices.
JoAnn was cremated. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004 at Central Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Doorstep: 1119 SW 10th, Topeka 66604 or Topeka Rescue Mission: 600 N. Kansas Ave. 66608
