JoAnn Adella (Currier) Shideler, 82, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
JoAnn was born March 9, 1932 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Robert M. and Eva Lucille (Wells) Currier. She was a 1950 graduate of Washburn Rural High School. She attended Washburn University and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
JoAnn was joined in marriage to Philip E. Shideler on August 22, 1952 in Topeka. They resided in Albuquerque until moving in 1953 to Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. In 1956, they moved back to Topeka.
JoAnn was an active member of First Christian Church, Topeka, where she was involved in Women's Fellowship. She was a member of Airport Wives, Shawnee County Home Demonstration Unit (HDU) and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also served as PTA President for Wanamaker Grade School.
JoAnn is survived by three sons, Robert and Randy, Topeka, Roger (Kim), Broken Arrow, OK, and a daughter, Rhonda Parr (Howard), Rossville, KS. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Corey (Lindsay) Shideler, Terah (Chris) Baldridge, Casey Shideler, Lara (Mike) Komosa, Kayleigh Shideler, Carissa (Adam) Hildebrandt, Shannon Parr, Olivia Shideler, Kyle Parr and Chase Shideler and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Komosa, Kaelyn Baldridge and Ella Hildebrandt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, after 61 years together, her parents, and a sister, Harriett "Pal" Boisvert.
JoAnn was a caring, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS, with visitation prior to the service starting at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Contributions may be made to First Christian Church, or Midland Care, 200 Frazier Ave., Topeka KS, 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, is assisting the family.
