Joan L. Addington, 94, of Topeka passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020.
She was born October 5, 1926, in Goff, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Iris (Prawl) Johnson.
She received a Nursing Degree from Christ Hospital later becoming Stormont Vail.
Joan devoted the majority of her 60 year nursing career to Stormont Vail Hospital as well as other healthcare facilities. She retired in 2004.
Joan was a long standing member of the Topeka Bible Church.
Joan married Cal C. Addington on March 18, 1948 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1990.
Survivors include her children, Sharon Netherton, Matthew (Heidi) Addington and John Addington; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and one sister; her husband, Cal; a son, Mark Addington and a great granddaughter, Heaven Netherton.
Joan enjoyed gardening. She especially loved a variety of roses. She devoted her life to her faith. She took numerous trips to various locations overseas visiting religious sites of historical importance.
Honoring Joan's request, cremation is planned. A visitation will be held Friday, November 13, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, Inc. PO Box 8350, Topeka, KS, 66608-0350.
