Jimmie Santiago Lemus, 74, of Topeka, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
He was born in San Bernardino, California, the son of Santiago and Natalia (Romero) Lemus. He graduated from San Bernardino High School and earned his AA in Architecture.
Jimmie was a gifted electrician and employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 36 years before he retired. He had a strong work ethic, and believed it was important to always work as unto the Lord. Post-retirement, he worked part-time at Topeka First and Farley Elementary School. The children at Farley, loved interacting with him because of his kind nature and great sense of humor.
Jimmie was a proud and loyal member of Topeka First Assembly of God Church. He served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher alongside his wife as well as participated in missions' trips through the years.
Jimmie loved sports including baseball, basketball, football, boxing and wrestling. You could always count on him to cheer on the Royals, Jayhawks, and Chiefs.
He was a dedicated husband, father and papa – his grandchildren were a great source of joy and he cherished his time with each of them.
Jimmie married Josephine Mena in August of 1972 in California, she survives. Other survivors include her daughters, Rosana (Brant) Challacombe and Marissa (Aaron) Cervantez; grandchildren, Noah, Isabella, Abel, Evan, and Judah; siblings, Sabina Martel, and Eddie Lemus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gilbert Lemus, Mike Lemus, John Lemus, and Raul Lemus.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Topeka First Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
