James "Jim" Lagerberg, 92, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022.
He was born December 14, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Paul and Olga (Heimerich) Lagerberg. He attended Wentworth Military Academy and graduated from Topeka High School in 1948. He went on to the University of Kansas and later graduated with his Bachelor's Degree from Washburn University in 1952.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Powell on January 24, 1952 in Topeka, Kansas. Together they shared 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in August 2014.
His only occupation was working for Capital Iron Works which was a Steel Fabricating Company that provided steel for construction jobs all over the world. Jim retired as co-owner and President in 2004.
Jim was baptized at the First Swedish Baptist Church, now West Side Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1942. He was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and the longest-serving elder of the church with eighty years of active membership.
Jim joined the United States Air Force in April 1954 until he was honorably discharged in April 1956 as Captain. He was a lifelong golfer and he enjoyed playing tennis, sailing, running and traveling.
Family meant the world to Jim. He cherished and adored all of his family and will be truly missed. He was always there when you needed him, always there to lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy (Bruce) Kready Smith and Cindy (Steve) Lines; grandchildren, Jeff (Nikki) Kready, Jon Kready, Jena (Shawn) Kirby, Erik Lines, Christopher (Mikayla) Lines, and Matthew Lines; great-grandchildren, Lena and Louise Kready, Kensington Kirby, Ruby and Evelyn Lines. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and son, Eric Lagerberg.
A Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the West Side Baptist Church, 1008 S.W. 4th Street, Topeka. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
