Jerry S. Baker, 79, of Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born September 30, 1931 in Kansas City, MO the son Harry B. and Velma Mae (Minch) Baker. He was a graduate of Washburn Rural High School and received a Bachelors of Business Administration from Washburn University.
Jerry owned and operated Westside Bait and Tackle. He also worked at Ed Marlings stores and was the sporting goods manager at Hypermart. Jerry had served in the Kansas National Guard 15 years.
He was married to Patricia L. Ecord. She preceded him in death February 20, 2006. Survivors include his son, Charles B. (Kristi) Baker, Osawatomie, KS; his daughter, Rebecca (Gary) Hatesohl, Greenleaf, KS; his grandchildren, Barbara (John) McCall, Elizabeth Baker, Adam Hatesohl and Kelsey Hatesohl; and his great grand children, Joshua and Jacob McCall.
He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral ceremony will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, at the funeral home followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice House, 200 S.W.
