Jerry W. Haag, 86, Topeka, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021.
Jerry was born December 9, 1934 in Topeka, the son of Clarence and Virgie (Jones) Haag.
He graduated from Perry High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was employed as a supervisor in the Revenue/Accounting department with the Santa Fe Railroad for over 37 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a band leader of the Starliners Dance Band for over 30 years and performed with the Havensville Opry and Elmont Opry.
He was a member of Topeka Bible Church.
Jerry loved music and enjoyed playing bass and steel guitar. He loved visiting Nashville to listen to live country music. He enjoyed restoring clocks, working in the yard, and distributing food for Harvesters.
Jerry was a kind and loving partner to his spouse Bonnie who he married in Grantville on July 9, 1965. His wife of 56 years survives.
He was an amazing loving father to his son, Kevin (Karen) Haag and his daughter Kelli (David) Finnegan who also survive. He taught them values of hard work, loyalty and being responsible. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed helping them with many projects.
Jerry loved being a grandpa to his four grandchildren, Brian and David Haag, Ryan and Kaitlin Finnegan who also survive. He enjoyed taking them to the park, playing cards, and watching them play sports. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Garrett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021.
