Jerome Schaeffer

Jerome (Jerry) J. Schaeffer, died peacefully on April 27, two days past his 97th birthday. Jerry passed at
the side of his wife of 74 years, Rosalind and his eldest son, Ian David. For the past several years Jerry
lived in Topeka, Kansas following almost 30 years in Hollywood, Florida. But the bulk of his family life
took place in Livingston, NJ, where he was very involved in the formation and maintenance of the
religious school at Temple Emanuel of West Essex.

Jerry was born and raised in Newark where he graduated from Southside High School and attended
NYU, getting his degree from Newark State Teacher's College. He had a varied career which included
teaching industrial arts, general sales manager for the Reliable Electric Company, in Newark and owner
of "The Hardware Center," in Livingston. In addition, Jerry was a jeweler and gemologist, carrying on a
long family tradition.

Jerry and Ros have three sons, David (Bobbi) of Topeka, Peter (Liz) of Essex Fells, NJ and Kevin (Pat) of Roseland, NJ. In addition, they have 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jerry was a good man, with a good heart who had a soft spot for children.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Topeka Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Jerry's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
