Jemi P. Johnson

Jemi Johnson was born on August 25th 1972 to Victoria Jackson and the late Herbert Johnson. Jemi departed this life on Saturday May 4th 2019 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka Kansas. Jemi graduated from Hamilton High School in 1991 where he was an outstanding basketball player. Jemi spent one year at Mississippi County Community College in Blytheville Arkansas on a basketball scholarship. That program closed and Jemi was accepted at Washburn University in Topeka where he continued his pursuit for basketball excellence.

Jemi met the love of his life, Pamela Ettus, in 1995. They married in 2004. To this union are two children born. Jemi was a night shift supervisor at Hills Pet Nutrition for 11 years. Prior to Hills he worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for DCCA, Inc as well as at Forbes Juvenile Correction facility as a Corrections Officer. Jemi won numerous awards and honors for basketball. In high school he played in the first High School Basketball Shootout in Alaska. During his time at Washburn, Jemi played in the Sun Desert Classic in Las Vegas Nevada and the Basketball Classic in Maui Hawaii.

Jemi leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Pamela Ettus-Johnson, two sons LaMarcus Betts and Jaxon Johnson (Topeka), two daughters Daylon Johnson (Topeka) and Kenesis Sullivan (TN). His mother Victoria Jackson (TN) and four sisters, Zonya (Charles) Warren (TN), Rhonda (Robert) Craig (TN), Angela Bradley (TN), LaTanya (Calvin) Neal (IN), one sister-in-law Samantha Ettus (CA) and brother-in-law Tim Ettus (CA). His father-in-law Frank Ettus (NY) and his step-mother Debra Johnson (TN); seven aunts Shirley Smith, Ethel Jackson (TN), Lorrie Jackson (MS), Barbara Jackson #2 (TN), Laverne Webster, Margaret Edwards, and Gail Durrah; seven uncles, Robert (Barbara) Jackson Sr, Lawrence (Anetta) Jackson (TN), Wayne (Sally) Jackson (TN), Melvin Jackson (GA), Jerry Savage, Alan Savage, and Melvin Savage. Two grandchildren Nicholas and Kleigh Turner. Host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and good friends in TN and KS.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. A Funeral Ceremony will be 3:00 p.m., on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Lee Arena at Washburn University, 1901 SW Mulvane St, Topeka, KS 66621. Private interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to a College fund for his children care of Kaw Valley Bank, 4848 SW 21st Street #102 Attn: Lanie Foster.
