Jeffrey Mcclain Hardman

April 27, 1957 — December 31, 2017

Jeffrey "Jeff" McClain Hardman (60) returned home to Our Heavenly Father on December 31st, 2017 at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, KS. He passed away peacefully after a determined fight with lung and brain cancer.

Jeff was born to parents Joseph and Margaret Hardman on April 27th, 1957 in Marion, Oregon at Salem Hospital.

Jeff is survived by two daughters, Jamie and Heather, whom he shared with former spouse, Karla; a son, Kody; seven grandchildren: Kylie, Jordan, Kaitlin, Elyssia, Casey, Haylee and Rylee, and two brothers, Tim and Chris Hardman.

Jeff served in the U.S. military starting at age 18, enlisting three times. Unfortunately, the family is unable to find documentation for the exact dates of service and status.

Jeff was an upstanding man who offered his hand to help others without being asked. A good testament to his character is a story posted in The Annapolis Capital newspaper in Maryland on February 3rd, 1982. He was driving when he saw a car broken down on the side of the road and when he got out to help, he was hit over the head, stabbed, and stolen from! He laughed about this event in the following years because he was an earnest yet humorous individual.

Jeff's humor could be crude and inappropriate but it was always intended to make others laugh. He loved to tell jokes and embellish stories from his own life, as lessons for his children and grandchildren. He was a poet and wrote many love poems and even left a final poem for the family to find after his passing. He always made sure the poems rhymed, too, and hated poems that didn't! He was always the first person to sing happy birthday to a family member, at 12 a.m. on the dot. He loved movies from the 80's and 90's and to watch NFL football, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins. He also loved seafood, specifically crab, and deep sea fishing.

Family was the most important aspect of Jeff's simple life, and he passed away surrounded by his loved ones.

While it seems cliché, Jeff looked forward to seeing his mother and fishing in Heaven with his two fathers, Joseph Hardman and Jesus Christ.

Jeff's wishes were to be cremated and for his family to scatter his ashes into the Atlantic Ocean from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, as well as near the Wright Brother's Memorial where his father rests, and near the Bodi Island Lighthouse where his mother rests. The family will do so in the summer of 2018.

The family gratefully appreciates the condolences and would love to hear any stories about Jeff during his 60 years of life.
