Jeannette L. Locke, 98, Topeka, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Brewster Place.
She was born Feb. 29, 1912 in Topeka, the daughter of Darwin Woodson and Elsie Lena Ortman Morse. She graduated from Topeka High School and was a lifelong Topeka resident. She was employed for a while at Hall Lithographing.
Jeannette and her husband were charter members of First Congregational Church. She served as a Deaconess in the church, and was on the board at the time of the formation of Brewster Place.
She married C.M. "Mike" Locke on July 8, 1939 in Topeka. He died Dec. 16, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Paul Morse and by an infant grandson.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael A. (Jan) Locke of Topeka and John D. Locke of Denver; a brother, Darwin Morse of Wichita; two grandsons, Matthew (Melinda) Locke of Topeka and Christopher (Christina) Locke of Griffin, GA; and a great-grandson, Gavin Locke.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private family interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
