Jeanne Elizabeth Proctor, 86, Topeka, passed away Friday March 27, 2009, at Homestead Assisted Living. She was born August 15, 1922 in Lake Park, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Betty) Christopherson.
Jeanne graduated from Lake Park High School in 1939, where she was captain of her basketball team. She went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in 1942. She taught 1st and 2nd grade in Orange City, Iowa.
She married Horace Proctor on November 25, 1945 in Lake Park. They moved to Topeka in 1960. Jeanne was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church and Topeka Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked at Pelletier's Department Store at Holliday Square and spent her free time volunteering at the V.A. Hospital.
Surviving are her children: William (Crystal) Proctor of Topeka, James Proctor of Lawrence and Rebecca (Pat) Wempe of Tecumseh; 4 grandchildren: Amy Proctor, Jennifer Rohn, Luke Proctor and Shawn Proctor; and 2 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death: daughter, Elizabeth Ann, son, Robert and her husband, Horace.
Memorial Service for Jeanne Proctor will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private inurnment will follow. She will be in state from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. Monday the 30th.
