Jay D. Stalcup, 57, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 with his family by his side.
He was born December 24, 1959 in Topeka, the son of Glenn "Mike" and Lois Jean Stalcup.
During his teenage years he participated in Little Britches Rodeo. Jay graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1978. In 1985 he joined the Lawrence Fire Department where he served for 28 years, 10 of which he served as the Union President. After retiring from the Fire Department in 2012, he spent 4 years building entry ramps for disabled Veterans and was later employed by Stormont Vail Healthcare.
Jay is survived by his wife Rhonda of the home, sons Rory (Katie) Tonniges, Austin Tonniges, and Jaycob (Megan) Stalcup; daughters Lacilyn (Matthew) Smith and Alanie Stalcup; 8 grandchildren; 2 dogters, Sadie and Scarlet; his father Glenn "Mike" Stalcup and brothers Michael (Vicky) Stalcup and Patrick (Jennifer) Stalcup. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lois Jean Stalcup.
Jay will lie in state after 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 7 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th Ave.,Topeka, Kansas 66604 where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 8 at the funeral home with burial to follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
