Jay Clark Miles, 31, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at Columbia Medical Center, Columbia, MO. He died as a result of an accidental fall from a roof while working on a house at the Lake of the Ozarks.
He was born March 23, 1974, in Topeka, the son of Ronald and Sara Smith Miles. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1992, where he lettered three years in football. He received a BS in Geography from K-State in 1997.
Jay was an Eagle Scout. He did summer relief work at Goodyear during college and had worked for Harrah's for several years. He was active in the Sports Car Club of America and a second mechanic for Swan Racing.
Survivors include his parents, Ronald and Sara Miles, Topeka; brother, Stuart Miles, Topeka; grandmother, Lola Smith, Topeka, formerly of Valley Falls; two uncles, Truitt Smith and wife, Jenny, League City, TX and John Smith and wife, Gina, Lubbock, TX; two aunts, Anita Ford and husband, Steven, St. Anne, IL and Jeanette Smith, Topeka; nine cousins, Trudy White Zadrozny, Trisha White Underwood, Amanda Smith, Suzanne Smith, Melynda Smith, Jenna Smith, Brandon Smith, Brittany Smith, and Brian Smith.
Services will be 11:00 am Monday at Lowman United Methodist Church. The family requests that friends dress casually in their favorite purple attire. Private interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jay will lie in state from 9 am to 9 pm Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Friends are encouraged to visit with the family at Jay's parent's home anytime over the weekend.
