Janice Sue Marcum

Janice Sue Marcum, of Berryton, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at a Topeka hospital. She was born November 16, 1939 in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Edgar Earl and Thelma Hix Evans. Due to the passing of her father at an early age, she was raised by her stepfather, Leon VanMeter. She moved to Topeka in December of 1973.

Janice graduated from El Dorado High School and Butler County Community College. She earned a double major in Economics and Data Processing from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. Janice accepted a fellowship from Wichita State University where she earned her Masters Degree in Economics. She taught economics at Butler County Community College prior to accepting a position with the Kansas Department of Revenue where she was employed from 1973 before retiring in 1997.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Martin of Crane, MO, Sharon Marcum of Topeka, Susanne Bargainear of Clarksville, TN, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her sister, LaDonna Moore of Great Bend and Peanut. Janice was preceded in death by her father, stepfather, mother and daughter, Kathy Davis on December 11, 1999.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Inurnment will take place in Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado, Kansas at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
