Janice M. Proper, 80, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born February 22, 1937 in Waterville, Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd and Mildred (Wray) Wolverton.
Janice graduated from Barnes High School. She attended Kansas State University and graduated from Washburn University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was employed as a teacher by U.S.D. 501 for over 24 years where she taught first grade at Bishop Elementary School.
Janice married Robert "Bob" Proper on June 8, 1958 in Barnes, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Diane (Greg) Henault and David (Brenda) Proper both of Topeka, three grandchildren, Ashley, Sean, and Christopher, two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery.
Janice was preceded in death by one grandson, Lucas J. Russell.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel. Private entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Janice will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas 66506.
