Janette Margaret Mayfield, 94, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at McCrite long term care. She was born on May 3, 1918 in Covington, Oklahoma to George and Emma (Bangerter) Starkel.
She graduated from Covington High School in 1935 and National Beauty College in Oklahoma City in 1937. She was a cosmetologist for four years and also was employed in the defense plant at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. On October 22, 1942, she married Jack Mayfield in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They moved to Topeka in 1961. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Good Fellowship Class and disciple Women's Fellowship.
Janette is survived by her husband, Jack and two sons, Dennis L. Mayfield of Raleigh, North Carolina and Alan R. Mayfield of Lenexa, Kansas and one granddaughter, Katharine Emma Mayfield of Orange County, California.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 7 at First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, 17th & Fairlawn. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
