Janet L. Locke

Janet L. "Jan" Locke, 76, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at a Topeka hospital. She was born November 11, 1940 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of William J. and Virginia (Palmer) Scott.
Jan graduated from Washburn Rural High School and attended Washburn University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She worked for the Kansas Legislative Research Department for 25 years. Prior to that, she worked for the Kansas Electric Co-op and did proofreading for various entities. She was a member of First Congregational Church.
Jan married Michael A. Locke on November 2, 1963. He survives. Other survivors include their children Matthew (Melinda), Christopher (Christina), grandchildren, Gavin, Grayson and Sarina and her brother, Jim Scott.
Jan was preceded in death by their infant son and her brother, Gary Scott.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at First Congregational Church. Private interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Jan will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins St., Topeka, KS 66604 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Topeka, KS 66604.
