Janet L. SCHNELLBACHER, 84, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at her home. She was born in Pelican, Louisiana on May 12, 1919 the daughter of William and Emma Smith Lord.
Janet attended and graduated from Gladwater High School in Gladwater, TX and Nursing School in Shreveport, LA.
A WWII, United States Navy veteran, she served in the Pacific Theater as a Nurse and held the rank of Lieutenant.
Mrs. Schnellbacher moved to Topeka in 1946 and worked for Topeka Medical Center as an orthopedic nurse for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
On April 1, 1944, in Gulfport, MS, she married George G. Schnellbacher, he passed away on Feb. 24, 1998. Survivors include her son G. Gary and his wife Beverly A. Schnellbacher and her daughter, Sandra L. and her husband William W. Wolf, all of Topeka. Three grandchildren survive G. Jason Schnellbacher of St. Louis, MO, Stuart A. Wolf of Topeka, KS and Rachel Wolf of Emporia, KS. Janet has three sisters surviving, Bessie Johnston of New Iberia, LA, Erma Sutton of Hillsboro, TX and Louise Hudson of Jasper, Ark.
She will lie in state on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town beginning at Noon; the family will receive friends from 2-3 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church in Klasse Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with full military honors.
