JANE GRIGGS SENATE, 89, Topeka, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born September 11, 1912 in Topeka, the daughter of Frank Wellington and Ella Davis Griggs. She graduated with honors from Topeka High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washburn University in 1933. While at Washburn, she served as President of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta and was editor of The Washburn Review, a weekly publication. She was a member of Nonoso, a senior women's honorary scholastic society. She did post-graduate work in English and Art at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Following WW2, she and her husband moved to Evanston, Ill., where Mrs. Senate served the Junior League and the Family Service League. They returned to Topeka in 1954.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, and in many other capacities. She served on the board of the Junior League, the Women's Mulvane Art Board, Ingleside Home, Stormont-Vail Auxiliary, and Topeka Country Club Auxiliary.
She married Colonel Ray C. Senate on March 7, 1942 in Topeka. He survives at the home.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at First Presbyterian Church.
