James Charles Zahourek, 95, went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2020 at Midland Hospice.
He was born on July 2, 1924 in Wichita, Kansas to William and Mary Zahourek. Jim served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Munsee during World War II and received a citation for courageously boarding the USS Mssissinewa, a Kaiten torpedoed, burring, tanker ship.
He retired from construction after 44 years of employment. For 62 years he was an active member of First Baptist Church serving on boards and was an usher for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Letha and their children Gay (Jim) of Monument, Colorado; Jeff of Topeka; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar, Ave.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar Ave, Topeka. Interment with military honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Topeka.
