Funeral services for Jim Knight, 85, Topeka, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1275 SW Boswell Ave, Topeka. A private interment will precede the service. Mr. Knight died on Thursday, Aug. 19, at his home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Grafton, West Virginia, the son of Emmit and Ethel Knight and was raised by foster parents Gail and Hallie Goodwin of Grafton. He attended West Virginia University before entering the Air Force in WWII. He spent two years in Italy during the war serving with the 456th Bomb Group.
He married Roberta B. Cameron in 1946 in Greeley, CO. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Clark in 1986; two brothers and four sisters.
He owned a potato chip sales company in Greeley for 10 years before building A&W restaurants in Junction City and Salina. He moved to Topeka in 1972 and purchased K&M Silo Company before retiring in 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Kauffman of Tyler, TX, and Connie Smyser of Annapolis, MD, a son Tom Knight and wife Michele of Lawrence, daughter-in-law Sharon Knight of Topeka, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Topeka.
