James Sakellaris, 90, Topeka, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 at his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1921 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Gus G. and Theone Estathiou Sakellaris. He graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He was a bombardier on a B-17 and flew out of Foggia, Italy.
He worked as a salesman for Westinghouse for several years, and later for General Electric for over 9 years before retiring in 1984.
He married Charlotte Hildebrand on Aug. 28, 1962 in Aspen, Colorado. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George C. Sakellaris.
Mr. Sakellaris was cremated and no public memorial service is planned. Inurnment at a later date will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels, 5724 SW Huntoon, 66604, or to Topeka Rescue Mission, 1312 N. Kansas Ave., 66608.
