James Patrick "Pat" Parr, 29, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Stormont- Vail Hospital after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was born February 19, 1980, in Kansas City, KS the son of Dr. Harold E. and Patricia M. Parr.
While a student at Washburn Rural High School, Pat met his future wife, Carrie Lowe. They were married in June 2001. He later attended Washburn University in order to pursue a career in medicine. While a student he worked at PT's Coffee Shop, Aldersgate Village, and Stormont-Vail.
He joined the Army Reserves in April 2004 as a Medical Logistics Specialist. Pat was quickly promoted to Sergeant and served as Squad Leader at the 4204th US Army Hospital. Despite his illness, Sgt Parr continued to lead his troops in Battle Assembly, only missing those times when he was hospitalized.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie, and their son Joshua, both parents, and his brothers, Casey (Jenny) Parr and Kevin Parr of Topeka.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday 5/30/2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore St, Topeka, KS. Cremation will follow services. Pat will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Friday 5/29/2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Kansas Chapter, 555 N.
