James Richard "Jim" McKee, 83, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his home. He was born December 19, 1934, in Topeka, the son of Joe and Doris (Coe) McKee.
Jim graduated from Topeka High school in 1952 and attended Washburn University. He graduated from IBEW Electronics and Cleveland Institute of Electronics. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Henrico.
Jim worked for AT&SF railway as a licensed electrician. He retired after 34 years as a General Foreman in the Santa Fe shops.
Jim loved to go hunting, fishing, trap shooting and traveling. He was a lifetime member of the Capital City Gun Club and the ATA.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Marietta Staples on June 8, 1953. They were married 65 years. She survives. Other survivors include their grandchildren Heather (Jason) , James (Britta), Christopher (Crystal), Dylan McKee, 12 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, one nephew, two nieces and his sister-in-law, Twilla McKee.
Jim was preceded in death by his two sons, Doug and David and his brother, Robert McKee.
Jim will be missed by his family, two dogs, Jack and Babe and his yard full of turtles.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
