James J. Martin, 86, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, November 4, 2006 at his home.
He was born November 6, 1919 in Ward, Iowa the son of Aime and Blanche (Mateer) Martin.
He was a 1939 graduate of Topeka High School.
James served from 1941-1946 in the U.S. Army during WWII in North Africa and India. He was a 45 year member of Philip Billard Post #1650, V.F.W..
He was employed with Adams Business Forms as a lithocamera-man for 32 years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Martin was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Swinging Squares Dance Club, while his health allowed him to participate.
He married Lucille Laris February of 1952. She preceded him in death in June of 1976. He married Glennis Humpert March 29, 1986. She survives. Other survivors include three step sons, Lyle (Peggy) Humpert, Tescott, KS; Lynn (Karen) Humpert, Topeka; Lonnie (Linda) Humpert, Edgerton, KS; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, his sister in law, Betty Martin, Topeka; two nephews, Kerry Martin and Kevin Martin, one niece, Carol King. He was preceded in death by a brother Darrell Martin.
Mr. Martin will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Colmery-O'Neil V. A.
