James Mac (Jim) Barron, 81, of Topeka, died on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Midland Hospice House. He was born January 20, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Clif and Frances Ann Langston Barron. Jim graduated from Wichita High School East in 1951 and from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in1955. After college he served the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge in 1957. Jim and Alice May Thorpe of Clay Center, Kansas were married August 11, 1954 in Abilene, Texas. Jim and Alice have resided in Topeka since 1965 and maintained a second residence in Buena Vista, Colorado from 1996 to 2004.
Jim was an investment broker and advisor in Topeka for 35 years. He began this career with A.G. Edwards & Son. In 1970 he joined the Topeka office of B.C. Christopher & Co. He became the manager of that office in 1976. While serving in that capacity he accepted a partnership in the firm in 1978 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1980. In 1983 Jim opened a Topeka office for the Kemper Securities Division of the Kemper Corporation. He retired from Wachovia Securities, a successor company, in December 2000 but continued to work on a part time basis as a financial consultant through 2002.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice; his three sons: Dayne Barron of Medford, Oregon, his wife Sigrid, and son James; Greg Barron of Alma, Kansas, his wife Karen, and daughters Shawnee, Cheyenne, and Sierra; and Cory Barron of St. Louis, Missouri, his wife Marlene and daughters Abigail and Grace; and sister Pricilla Partridge of Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his two other sisters: Patricia Schaake of Lawrence, Kansas and Pamela Darnell of Prairie Village, Kansas.
