James L. "Jim" Hopkins, Jr., 50, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at a local hospital after an 18 month battle with cancer.
Jim was born May 5, 1962 in Topeka, the son of James L. and S. Irene (Adams) Hopkins. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1980 and attended Cloud County Community College where he played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Washburn University in 1985.
He was employed by Wal-Mart for 24 years, and currently was Assistant Manager at the Wal-Mart on Wanamaker Road.
Jim married Cheryl Cullen on March 4, 1995 in Stillwater, OK. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Sarah and Doug Hopkins of the home; parents, Jim and Irene Hopkins, Topeka; brothers, Commander Ken Hopkins, Naples, Italy and Tom Hopkins, Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Jim will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
